Beavers Come up Short at Windermere Cup

SEATTLE, Wash. The Oregon State Junior Varsity 8+ and Freshman 8+ crews raced to narrow losses at the Windermere Cup Saturday morning in Seattle, Wash.
The F8+ crew was the first to take the water matching up with three Husky freshman crews. Although the Washington A’ boat got out to a solid lead over the rest of the field, the three other crews were neck-and-neck for most of the race. The Washington B’ crew pulled away as the crews approached the final stretch, and the Beavers sandwiched themselves between the two Husky crews, finishing 10.16 seconds behind the Husky B’ crew and 6.25 seconds ahead of the Washington C’ crew. “The F8+ crew faced off against a tough Washington Freshman team,” said Oregon State head coach Steve Todd. “Now it is all about working on our speed in order to reach the potential we have shown.” “The JV8+ has shown a lot of improvement over a couple weeks ago,” said Coach Todd. “We have two more weeks until the Pac-10 Championships and we are focusing every day on getting faster. This regatta marked the final tune-up for the Beavers before they travel to Rancho Cordova, Calif. on May 18 for the Pac-10 Championships. Results Freshman 8+
The Beaver’s JV8+ crew followed up on Montlake Cut facing the Washington JV8+ for the annual Erickson Cascade Cup. The two boats both got out to good starts; however the Husky crew was able to climb to a small lead which held up the rest of the way and finished with a 9.25 second victory.
