Softball Falls after Tough Second Inning to No. 22 Cal

Corvallis, Ore. Junior (Tustin, Calif.) went 2-for-3, adding a stolen base, in Friday afternoon’s 9-1 loss to No. 22 Cal in five innings at the OSU Softball Stadium.
Oregon State (26-27, 4-12 Pac-10) earned six hits, leaving 11 on base including three in the final inning. The Golden Bears (39-20, 6-10 Pac-10) had seven total hits with two home runs.
Cal jumped on the board to take a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring two runs on one hit and a pair of walks.
Freshman (Beaverton, Ore.) earned the first RBI for the Beavers, scoring senior (Camarillo, Calif.) from second on her single to right field. Junior (Scottsdale, Ariz.) took four straight balls to load the bases, but all three were left stranded as the inning closed with Oregon State trailing by one run.
But the Golden Bears had a big second inning scoring seven runs behind five hits including Bernice Masaniai and Sanoe Kekahuna’s multi-run home runs.
Sophomore (Eugene, Ore.) was the pitcher of record in the loss, putting her record at 17-21, after pitching one inning and facing two batters in the second inning. Cal’s Marissa Drewrey earned the complete game win to improve her record to 26-13.
Oregon State wraps up the weekend against No. 8 Stanford on Saturday and Sunday with game times set for 3:00 and 12:00 p.m.
