WALNUT CREEK, Calif. A total of 18 Oregon State student-athletes have been named to the various men’s and women’s rowing Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic teams, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.
On the women’s side, senior Erica O’Connell (Alsea, Ore./Alsea HS) juniors Rebecca Franceschi (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic HS), Claire Hanway (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit HS), Jane Ivey (Nelson, New Zealand), and Kaylie Towne (Myrtle Point, Ore./Myrtle Point HS) and sophomore Melissa Penwell (Eugene, Ore./Churchill HS) made the first team while two others were selected to the second team and two more received honorable mention.
Senior Caroline Leibinger (Neu-Ulm, Germany) and sophomore Katie Humm (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit HS) made the second team while junior Britnie Jones (Camarillo, Calif.) and sophomore Sarah Joos (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis HS) were honorable mention.
O’Connell earned her third consecutive first team honor, while Franceschi, Hanway and Towne each received first team recognition for the second time. Leibinger was recognized on the second team for the third time.
OSU’s men team put the most rowers on the first team squad in the conference with eight. Earning all-academic honors for the Beavers were senior (Davis, Calif.), juniors (Ashland, Ore./Ashland HS), (Manchester, N.H.), (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley HS), (Salem, Ore./Sprague HS), (Prineville, Ore./Crook County HS) and (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and sophomore (Salem, Ore./Salem Academy).
This marks the third time that Conners has received first team honors while Dirth, Halleck and Wagner are all two-time recipients.
