No. 14 Beavers Head South for Pac-10 Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore. – After two weeks of preparation, the No. 14 Oregon State women’s crew returns to the waters of Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. for the Pac-10 Championships on Sunday, May 18.
The Beavers' Varsity 8+ comes to the Pac-10 Championships with a record of 1-1 against Pac-10 crews this season. Oregon State was able to upset then No. 8 Washington in Seattle on April 19th. The Beavers were not so lucky against Washington State, falling to the fourth-ranked crew in the country by less than four-seconds.
Among OSU's V8+ competition in the morning heat will be No. 1 California, as well as defending Pac-10 champion and No. 12 USC. The No. 4 Cougars and the V8+ crew from Gonzaga round out the field. The race is scheduled to begin at 8:40 a.m.
Oregon State’s Second Varsity 8+ is scheduled to race just before the V8+ in the second heat of the 2V8+ competition in a race that begins at 8:30 a.m. The Beavers face competition from Cal, UCLA, Stanford, Western Washington, and Sacramento State.
The Beavers third entry in the Pac-10 Championships is the Novice 8+ crew. Among the competition that the N8+ crew will face in their morning heat are crews from Cal, USC, Gonzaga, and Sacramento State. The N8+ crew will be the last Oregon State crew to take the water in the morning heats as they are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
A Varsity 4+ crew rounds out the Oregon State entries in the Pac-10 Championships. The Beavers' V4+ is coming off of a victory against Washington State in the dual regatta on May 3rd. The V4+ will face crews from Cal, Stanford, and Gonzaga in it’s heat which begins at 8:10 a.m.
Following the morning races, crews will be reseeded into a Grand Final and a Petite Final. The Petite Finals are scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m., while the Grand Finals will alternate with the men’s races beginning at 2 p.m.
“The Pac-10 regatta is always highly competitive and I’m sure that this year will be no different,” head coach Emily Ford said. “Just like every other race we have been to this year, we will be working to have our best possible race. Our preparations have been going very well and we are looking forward to some great racing.”
