Beavers Drop Second Game of Series To UCLA, 11-4

The Oregon State baseball team dropped game two of its three-game series to UCLA, 11-4, Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 2,539 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
The Beavers fell to 23-19 overall this season and 10-10 in Pacific-10 Conference games, while the Bruins improved to 25-22 overall and 8-9 in conference games. Game three of the series comes Sunday afternoon in a 1 p.m. PT start.
The Beavers fell behind early when starting pitcher Tanner Robles gave up three runs, two of which were earned, in only 2/3 of an inning on two hits and two walks. He only faced six batters before being relieved by fellow freshman Greg Peavey.
UCLA starting pitcher Charles Brewer pitched 7 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, only two of which were earned. He gave up five hits and struck out nine. Brewer gave up three early runs in the bottom of the first but settled in for the win which increased his record to 7-4.
OSU junior Jason Ogata collected two of the team’s five hits off Brewer. He singled both times. Lonnie Lechelt hit his fourth home run of the season on a solo shot in the seventh and Ryan Ortiz doubled home a run in the first inning.
UCLA first baseman Casey Haerther was 2-for-4 to pace UCLA. He scored twice and drove in two. Brandon Drawford was 2-for-5, scoring twice while driving in two runs. Cody Decker was 2-for-5 with one run scored but had four RBI and had a two-run home run in the ninth to cap UCLA’s win.
Peavey went 5 2/3 innings in long relief for the Beavers and gave up five runs on seven hits. He struck out two. Peavey took the loss and dropped to 2-3 this season.
Ogata went 2-for-4 on the say with one run scored, one RBI, and was the only Beaver to have more than one hit in the game.
The Beavers (23-19, 10,10) came back in the bottom of the first with three runs. John Wallace started things for the Beavers in the first by reaching on an error to lead off the first inning. Jordan Lennerton came to the plate two batters later with one out and drew a walk to have runners at first and second.
Both teams scored three runs in the first, but the Bruins were able to get the lead for good in the third after scoring three more. UCLA added two more runs in the seventh for a five-run, 8-3 lead.
The Beavers closed the gap in the seventh on Lechelt’s solo shot.

OSU Notes: Jason Ogata extended his hitting streak to four games and is 7-for-18 with three runs scored and has five RBI during the stretch ... The top four batters in the Beavers’ lineup scored a run on Saturday ... The Beavers have been issued 33 walks in their last four games.
