No. 13 Beavers Prepare to Take on No. 3 Washington State
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s crew travels to Pullman, Wash. for a Saturday date with No. 3 ranked Washington State, May 3. The dual regatta, held on the Snake River, is the Beavers final tune-up before the Pac-10 Championships.
Oregon State is looking to knock off its second top 10 opponent in as many races. Two weeks ago, the Beavers defeated the previously No. 8-ranked Washington Huskies in a dual regatta in Seattle. The Cougars are the second Pac-10 opponent the Beavers have faced this season and will give the OSU crews valuable experience headed into the Pac-10 Championships.
The Beavers will take six boats to Pullman, led by the OSU Varsity 8+, which was nominated for Row2K Crew of the Week after their upset of the Huskies in Seattle. The V8+ is scheduled to go head-to-head with the Cougars starting at 10:45 a.m.
The Novice 8+ crews will begin the day of racing at 10:30 a.m., followed by the V8+ crews. The Second Varsity 8+ will finish up the first half of races in Pullman at 11 a.m.
After a brief break the Second Varsity 4+ will get the second half of races started at 11:30 a.m., with the Second Novice 8+ following at 11:45 a.m. The Varsity 4+ will conclude the regatta with its dual against the Cougars, starting at 12:00 p.m.
After finishing its dual races against the Cougars, Oregon State will take next weekend off to prepare for the Pac-10 Championships, scheduled for Sunday, May 18 at Rancho Cordova, Calif. All seven Pac-10 crews are ranked in the April 30 release of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll, with California (2), Washington State (3), and Stanford (9) cracking the top 10 in the country.
