Oh....The Humanity!

It’s Bigger, it’s Meaner, it’s Oranger ... that’s the tag line for the 2008 Beaver football season ticket promotion, but several Beaver players have taken it to heart and actually colored their hair orange, including quarterback . “There’s nothing really to it,” Moevao said. “We just wanted to be different. It’s actually supposed to be blonde.” The “we” is and David Pa’aluhi. The first thing I asked him was “what did his mother say?” Beaver head coach said. Defensive end was asked about the orange hair following practice he just smiled and said “I’ve got this beard thing going, but it’s coming off Friday.” Come to think it he is starting to look a little Grizzly Adam-ish. It’s actually becoming a quarterback tradition of sorts at Oregon State. Former signal-caller tried the orange look; it didn’t last long. Offensive coordinator was so hard on Moore’s look that it changed pretty quickly. The final spring practice of the year took place Wednesday in the Truax Indoor Center. A sense of relief by a majority of players with this part of the season almost over. A good team session today in practice. One particular play in the “red zone drill” was breaking away from safety for a touchdown really doesn’t seem fair for Laybourn, but he still was plenty upset about it. Cornerback made a nice play on a pass and wrestled it away from Darrell Catchings for an interception. And Ryan Katz has noticeably improved in just the month he has been behind center. “I’m very excited about how comfortable Ryan feels,” Riley explained. “I also like the way he is willing to be coached. We can coach him hard and he just stands there and listens and goes out there the next play and reacts from there that’s impressive.” Nike representatives were on campus again Wednesday for about the fifth time during spring practice. Today, several players were trying developmental footwear. The Spring Game will actually be two games in one. The veteran first and second team guys will play an actual game, as much as possible, while the “young guys” will work out during what amounts to halftime and at the end of the day.“We really don’t have enough guys to divide up,” Riley said. The Spring Game begins at 12:30 p.m. with the annual autograph session on the field at Reser Stadium. For all the day’s activities follow this . Also, make sure to tune into KPAM 860 for Inside Sports with Ron Callan at Noon on Saturday. Callan has exclusive interviews with Riley, Rodgers and Moevao. “I think we we’re ready for Saturday, but this spring is all geared toward August and September,” Riley said at the end of practice. “I hope we get through the game without another injury; we haven’t had many injuries this spring, but the ones we have had have been significant.” One roster note redshirt-freshman running back has left the program to pursue other opportunities.
