Beavers Come Up Short in Civil War Series Finale

Corvallis, Ore. Freshman (Vista, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, but Oregon State’s seventh inning rally came up short as the team fell to Oregon 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex, in the final game of the 2007-08 The Beavers won the overall Civil War series for the third time in four years.
Junior (Tustin, Calif.) and freshman (Beaverton, Ore.) earned the other two hits for the Beavers (26-26, 4-11 Pac-10). Oregon improves to 30-22, 3-11 Pac-10.
Sophomore (Eugene, Ore.) started off strong for the Beavers in the circle, striking out the side in the first inning before retiring the next three batters, throwing four strikeouts in the first three innings.
The Ducks scored early on a wild pitch in the third inning before earning another run in the top of the fifth with Blair Williamson beating out the throw to home to create a 2-0 gap.
Oregon State started to rally in the bottom of the seventh after Guzy reached on an error and junior (Scottsdale, Ariz.) hit a double down the left field line. Guzy scored soon after on a wild pitch while junior (Tigard, Ore.) advanced to third after coming into the game as a pinch runner for Ewing. But three straight outs closed the chances for the Beavers.
Despite throwing seven strikeouts and scattering four hits, Dyer was charged with the complete game loss putting her record at 17-20. Oregon’s Alicia Cook earned the win, making her overall record 14-10.
Oregon State hosts No. 22 Cal next on Friday, May 2, at 3:00 p.m. at the OSU Softball Complex.
