John Cheney first joined the
He was named Event Manager on July 1, 2001 and held that title until February 1, 2002 when he was named interim Director of Operations. He became the Director of Operations in July of 2003 and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations in July of 2005.
In his current capacity, Cheney supervises the event management operations for all sports with specific game management duties for football, wrestling and gymnastics. His office oversees the game management requirements, game day parking and coordination of the event staff for all home Beaver events. He oversees all NCAA, Pac-10 Conference and other postseason competitions hosted by OSU -- including the 2005, 2006, and 2007 Regional and Super Regional Baseball Championships, 2006 Regional and Super Regional Softball Championships, the 2006 NCAA Gymnastics National Championships, and 2008 NCAA West Regional Gymnastics Championships.
On the facilities side, Cheney’s responsibilities include coordinating all capital projects and building renovations, supervision of the athletic maintenance department staff and attending to the facility needs of all the athletic venues. His office is responsible for the scheduling and rental of all athletic venues.
Cheney held an instrumental role in the programming, design and construction of the $115 Million Reser Stadium expansion completed in September 2007, and has been involved in over $130 million in capital improvements. He is currently involved in the programming and planning phases for several other projects including the Gill Coliseum exterior and basement renovations.
