Velasquez Aces; Allenby Fifth at Halfway Point

Fairfax, Calif. The Oregon State men’s golf team is in seventh place at the Pac-10 Championship following the first two rounds of action on Monday at The Meadow Club. One of the highlights for Oregon State on day one came from Diego Velasquez as he hit a rare hole-in-one on the par-3 ,11th during the second round of competition and finds himself 1-over par for the championship at 143. Velasquez was even par after the first round of competition and finished one over in the second round. He was 3-under on the back nine during the second round thanks to the hole-in-one and four birdies. Senior James Allenby continues to have a great year and is tied for fifth place at 3-under, one behind the leaders. Allenby has 10 birdies in two rounds and shot a 139 through two rounds. Paul Peterson, Vincent Johnson and Alex Williams are all tied at 5-over after each shot 147 through two rounds. Tyler Simpson rounds out the Beavers and is 9-over for the championship. The Pac-10 Championship runs two more days with the third round tomorrow and the final round on Wednesday. Stanford University leads the event at 3-under as a team and there is a four way tie for first atop the individual leaderboard.
