Travelin' with the Beavs: Practice Day

If Tuesday was uneventful, maybe even pleasantly boring, then Wednesday was the opposite.
The day started with a team breakfast at the hotel, then off to the University of Georgia’s Stegeman Coliseum for practice. The Beavers, who will start the preliminary round on the floor exercise, were in the first practice session and enjoyed a productive day. One of the unique parts of this NCAA Championships meet is that each event will be performed on a raised podium, presenting the gymnasts in more of a “spotlight” to the crowd. Most of OSU’s gymnasts have never performed on the podium and took to the additional apparatus.
In the afternoon, head coach and junior spoke to the media at the NCAA’s official championship press conference. Quotes from both are below. The pair was also interviewed for the Georgia website, to see what OSU’s representatives had to say.
The Beavers’ final outing of the day was for dinner at the Olive Garden. Twenty-five person tables are often hard to come by, but the restaurant staff was eagerly awaiting us and things moved relatively smoothly for such a large group. Lots of laughter from the gymnasts and they appear loose and ready for the big show tomorrow.
The Orange & Black ended the evening with a team meeting to discuss, one more time, the intricacies of the championship meet.

Oregon State Head Coach
“Our team has worked tremendously hard and have tried to build on last season’s success. We were the runner-up in the Pac 10 this year and we had a great West region meet. It has been an honor to work with these young women. They are driven and enthusiastic. We hope to come in this weekend and continue to build on the exciting things we were able to do last weekend.”
Oregon State Junior
“This is a team that has built on our success each year. We have a great opportunity now and we are ready to take the next step and make the Super Six. I can’t wait until tomorrow night’s competition.”
