Travelin' with the Beavs: Gymnasts Reach Georgia

The Beavers crossed the country today in preparation of competing at the NCAA Championships later in the week. The flight was direct (thank goodness) from PDX to Atlanta and the entire travel party was blessed with the wonderful opportunities of middle seats.
, who grew up in Eugene, and , whose family has a habit of wearing a lot of green and yellow, were delighted to meet former Oregon and current Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback Joey Harrington at PDX. Handshakes were exchanged and photos taken ... I’m sure he was as impressed to be in the presence of OSU gymnasts as they were to be in the presence of an NFL quarterback.
Bolen was heard saying that there is still a poster of Harrington in her room at home ... a problem that OSU associate head coach promises will be remedied.
Upon arrival in the A-T-L, the team grabbed a bite to eat at Ruby Tuesday’s before heading onto Athens. Re-energized by the reminder from home (same grub as we’ve got in Corvallis) there were short renditions of “My Baby Bumblebee” followed by “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” from the back of the bus (that’s where the gymnasts sit) before we could even reach the freeway.
The weather in Georgia is an improvement from what we left behind, which was less than pleasant (but at least it wasn’t hailing anymore). Yes, warm and NOT sticky is an absolute improvement.
An online interview for International Gymnast magazine was posted recently featuring OSU recruit Olivia Vivian. Vivian, who is training for the Olympics this summer in Beijing, and OSU head coach were interviewed for the piece. Click to read the interview.
Also Vivian has recently posted a new blog at her club’s website. her blog to get to know one of next season’s characters.
