Last Game
Lonnie Lechelt went 3-for-5 with a double and Joey Wong hit a double and his team-leading fifth home run by the Beavers lost to No. 2 Arizona State, 15-12, in the three-game series finale on Sunday in Tempe. Wong tied a season-high with four RBI, and Lechelt ended a weekend in which he had a double, triple, home run and seven RBI.
OK, Lonnie Once More
Lonnie Lechelt had an impressive weekend against ASU, driving in seven runs to give him 12 in 10 career games against the Sun Devils and was named the Pac-10’s Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Upstart Wong
Last season, Joey Wong had no home runs and 19 RBI. The then-freshman had just three multiple-RBI games. This season, the sophomore already has five home runs and 23 RBI through 31 games. The shortstop has five multi-RBI games.
Wellsian
Braden Wells started his second game of the weekend against Arizona State on Sunday and made quite an impression. The senior tied a career-high with three hits and drove in his first run of the season.
Notes Of Importance
The Beavers are still 8-0 in night games this season and 10-13 in day contests.
Stats from the April 15 suspended game still do not count and won’t until OSU and Portland resume the game May 7 at a location to be announced.
Saturday’s game against Arizona is slated to be a nationally-televised game on FSN. It is also the Pac-10 Game of the Week on XM Radio.
Jason Ogata batted in the No. 4 spot in the order for the first time Sunday. The junior had batted third in the previous 31 games, the only batter to hit in the same spot of the lineup all season.
Head Coach Pat Casey will be seeing Portland for the 50th time in his career at OSU.
OSU is batting .323 and has a 1.64 ERA in its two previous games against Portland this season.
