NCAA DONOR REGULATIONS
Compliance with NCAA regulations is of the highest priority for Long Beach State Athletics programs. We need your assistance in complying with NCAA Rules. When you are faced with a situation and unsure as to how to respond, we strongly urge you to contact our Compliance Director at 562.985.8947 before acting. Your continued involvement and support of 49ER athletic programs is most appreciated.
NCAA Rules Governing Recruiting of Prospective Student-Athletes
A prospect is any student who has started classes for the ninth grade. Only Long Beach State Athletics Coaches and staff members may be involved in the recruiting process. Communication between donors and prospects, or their families for the purpose of encouraging participation in The Beach's athletic programs is strictly prohibited. Donors may not contact Prospect's coach, principal, teachers or counselor for the purpose of evaluating that prospect.
NCAA Rules Governing Currently Enrolled Student-Athletes
DO NOT use the name or picture of an enrolled student-athlete to directly advertise, recommend or promote the sale or use of a commercial product or service of any kind.
DO NOT provide any extra benefit or special arrangement to student-athletes or friends or relatives of student-athletes.
IT IS NOT PERMISSIBLE to provide "extra benefits" to the student-athletes, family or friends which include, but are not limited to:
- Cash or loans of any amount
- Co-signing or arranging a loan
- Gifts of free services (i.e. airline tickets, meals, tickets to movies)
- Use of an automobile
- Rent free or reduced cost housing the summer, winter, fall and spring
- Money for bail or bond
- Employment of a student-athlete's relative's or friends as an inducement to enroll at the university
- Employment of a student-athlete at a rate higher than the wages paid for similar work
- Payment to a student-athlete for work not performed
- Tickets to an athletic, institutional or community event
- Promise of employment after college graduation
- Invitations to your summer home for recreational activities
- Hospitality in your home, with the exception of an occasional home meal
- Gifts or awards for student-athletes
IT IS PERMISSIBLE to invite a student-athlete to your home for an occasional meal and provide local transportation to your home.
IT IS PERMISSIBLE to employ or assist a student-athlete in finding a part-time job during the academic year or full-time employment during the summer. You must comply with all rules and guidelines.
Long Beach State Athletics Boosters may provide an occasional meal to a student-athlete at their home, but not at a restaurant. The meal may be catered and transportation may be provided to from their home.
