Yale 53, Oregon State 52 - Post Game Quotes
OREGON STATE HEAD COACH CRAIG ROBINSON
On the look of the team after three games:
“I’ve been through this a couple times. It’s not a quick fix, that’s why these jobs are hard. We have to somehow impress upon the guys how important every little thing is, because when you get in a close game like this. We missed ten foul shots. We turned the ball over 18 times and we only made one three. You just have so many things that you can point to, where if we had just done one or two things better than we did, we might have won the game.”
On the defensive effort:
“The defense was pretty good, but defense also includes defensive rebounding. They got seven offensive rebounds and it seemed like every single one of them was important.”
On Josh Tarver’s effort in the last five minutes:
“I thought the defense was what the spark. I think that unfortunately we have a tendency to need adversity to really kick it into higher gear. Instead you should have an ability to kick into a higher gear back when you were up eight or six, then kick it into the next gear so you don’t have to worry about playing from behind. But that is a learned behavior, it’s not natural.”
OREGON STATE JUNIOR GUARD JOSH TARVER
Tough one to take...
“Definitely, it’s a tough one to lose to Yale. The free throws once again killed us. Turnovers and free throws did. I had six turnovers and that is unacceptable.”
What was going through your head on the final free throws...
“I honestly thought the second one was going in. I can’t get down on myself. Those two free throws our team really needed and I didn’t come through. I thought we played very good defense at the end. We forced a lot of turnovers at the end.”
On free throws as a team...
“It’s a lack of focus at the line. We are better free throw shooters than what we show. None of us should ever miss any at all. You are not going to win when we you’re 9-19.”
