Men's Hoops Falls to Yale in Home Opener
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) led the way with a season-high 21 points; however, it was not enough for the Oregon State men’s basketball team as the Beavers fell to Yale, 53-52, in action on Monday night. The loss marked the second of the year by two points or less as Oregon State fell to 0-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs spoiled the home debut of Oregon State coach as Travis Pinick had a team-high 12 points and six rebounds for Yale (1-3) and Alex Zampier added 10 points.
Oregon State rallied from eight points down with six minutes to play, but three-point woes (1-of-13) and missed free throws (9-of-19) cost the Beavers in the end.
With 3.1 seconds remaining, Pinick missed a free throw for Yale as Oregon State got the rebound and called time-out to set up a final play. Pinick blocked 's long 3-point attempt just before the buzzer.
Deane added nine points while had six in the loss for Oregon State.
Oregon State will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 26, when the Beavers host Montana State at 8:00 p.m.
