Softball Signs Three for 2010

Corvallis, Ore. Three have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Oregon State softball team beginning in 2010, announced Tuesday by head coach .
“This is another very exciting class of athletes join the Beaver softball family,” Walker said. “All three bring exceptional skill and intense competitive drive. We are extremely fortunate to get all three of these athletes as they were all very highly touted and recruited. All three athletes have great athleticism and versatility. Between all three, they have played every position on the field including pitcher during the past two years. We expect great things from this class and look forward to them joining the team next fall.”
Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif./Concord HS)
Lea Cavestany joins the Oregon State softball team after earning 2008 East Bay All-League First Team honors, being named the Contra Costa Times Athlete of the Week and being named to the All-Tournament team for Queen of the Mountain after a second place finish in the North Coast Section.
In 2007 she was named the DFAL Most Valuable Player, earned Contra Costa Times Athlete of the Week accolades, All-East Bay honorable mention and Contra Coast Times First Team All-League. In 2006, she achieved everything that she did in 2007, adding DFAL Most Valuable Pitcher honors.
“Lea is a very versatile player that has the ability to play shortstop, second base and third base,” Walker said. “Also to Lea’s credit, she is a tremendous student, spotting a 4.0 GPA. She is going to be a great addition to the Beaver softball family.”
Allison Kutz (Mt. Vernon, Wash./Mt. Vernon HS)
Allison Kutz joins the Beavers after earning All-State honors last season as team captain, adding All-Northwest Conference Shortstop honors for the second year in a row. She also has three varsity basketball letters.
Academically, Kutz was named to the 2007 Washington 3A Academic State Champion Softball Team after earning 2006 4A honors.
“Ally is another player with a very versatile background with the ability to catch, play third base or shortstop,” Walker said. “She will find a place on the field for the Beavers, and she is a tremendous student.”
Maggie Doremus (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS)
Maggie Doremus has helped lead her high school softball team to back-to-back section CIF softball championships the past two seasons, while adding three section CIF basketball championships as well. If she wins one more CIF title, she will tie the school record of six state titles.
Doremus was named to the first team All-North County in 2007 for softball, adding second team All-Palomar League honors. In travel ball, she helped her team to a 2007 ASA 18U Gold Nationals ninth place finish after a fifth place finish in 2006 at the 16U level.

“Maggie is another tremendous athlete that we’ve been able to get up to Corvallis from San Diego,” Walker said. “She comes to the team as a second baseman with amazing range and a scrappy style of play that will fit in perfectly.”
