CORVALLIS, Ore. The Oregon State men’s basketball team officially opened the 2008-09 season on Friday as the squad hit the court for the first official practice as the team prepares for the season opener on Friday, Nov. 14, at Howard.
Oregon State, led by first year head coach Craig Robinson, returns four starters and 10 letter-winners from last year’s squad; including Seth Tarver, who is the leading returning scorer after averaging 9.6 points per game a year ago.
“We have a lot of work to do and I think everyone is excited to have practice officially get underway,” Robinson said. “The team has put in a lot of hard work leading up to this point and they understand there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. I think everyone is ready to get to work.”
Robinson joins Oregon State after two seasons at Brown where he led a turnaround for the Bears program, guiding the squad to a school-record 19 victories last year. Under his guidance, the Bears earned their fourth ever post-season tournament berth, competing in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational.
Oregon State welcomes three newcomers to the roster in 2008-09 as the Beavers prepare for a rigorous schedule.
The 2008-09 slate features 18 games at legendary Gill Coliseum as Oregon State opens the regular season at home on Monday, Nov. 24, against Yale.
Prior to the home opener, Oregon State will host a pair of exhibition games as the Beavers face Saint Martin’s on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. before a meeting with Concordia (Ore.) University on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7:00 p.m.
