CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Oregon State pitcher was announced as the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Charlottesville Baseball Regional last weekend. Four other Beavers joined Paterson on the all-tournament team.
Paterson (McMinnville, Ore./McMinnville HS) pitched 12.2 innings during the weekend, allowing just one run in three appearances and earning two wins and a save. Paterson started the first game of the tournament for the Beavers going six innings and allowing his only run of the tourney to record his first win of the week. He came back on Monday to throw 3.2 innings of hitless relief to earn his second win in three days. He finished the tournament with three innings of scoreless relief for the save during OSU’s clinching victory over Virginia.
Joining Paterson on the all-tournament was OSU’s entire infield of (Langley, B.C.), (Salem, Ore./Sprague HS), (Beaverton, Ore./Southridge HS), and (Kennewick, Wash.) along with outfielder Chris Hopkins (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd HS, Sierra JC).
Wong, a freshman second baseman, led the Beavers with eight hits in the tournament and a .364 batting average in five games.
Lechelt, a junior third baseman, came to life offensively in the tournament hitting .350 with seven hits including two home runs, his first in over two years while playing solid defense at the hot corner.
Barney, a junior shortstop, tallied seven hits including a home run, three RBIs and a pair of stolen bases and batted .333.
Lennerton, a junior first baseman, recorded a pair of extra base hits including a home run and scored four times.
Hopkins, a junior, batted .333 with a home run, double, a stolen base and seven runs scored.
