Both teams arrived at Davenport Field and took batting practice in its indoor hitting cages as light drizzle continued outside; a tentative start time was then set for 3:30 p.m. PDT. The grounds crew peeled back the corner of the tarp covering the home plate area, then a heavy shower hit and the plate area was again tarped.
When the rain didn’t let up and further bands of showers were forecast to be passing over the area in the coming hours, it was decided at approximately 6:15 p.m. that the game would be postponed until Monday.
“It changes us one more day,” OSU head coach Pat Casey said. “Maybe it will help us out. We thought we were ready to go today but the weather wasn’t playable, so we’ll just do what we have to to get ready for Monday.”
The rain gave the Beavers a rest after they had lost to
“They’re going back and going to study hall, so I don’t think it’s very good right now,” Casey said with a smile. “They’re good. Hey, we’ve got to win games. We played last night and played a real good

With the early call on postponing the game, the Beavers had much of the morning and early afternoon free.
“Just relaxing” is how OSU pitcher Eddie Kunz said he spent his time. “Not really doing much. I just stretched out my arm a little bit and hopefully got ready for Monday.”

“Most of our guys were a little tired from playing 13 innings,” Kunz said. “It helps us out a lot. It gives everybody a day off to relax, get ready, and come out and win two games Monday.”

“At first, Lissman thought it was Eli Manning,” Santschi said. “I walked in there and looked at him real quick, and it was, Naw, that’s definitely Peyton, that’s THE Manning right there.”
Indeed, the quarterback of the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts was in town because his wife was attending a class reunion at
Others in the store had also recognized Manning. Santschi waited until Manning went outside to make a phone call, followed him outside, and asked if he’d mind having a picture taken with the Beaver trio.
“He was very kind and polite and said, Sure’,” Santschi said. “He made his phone call, and then we went out and had our picture taken with him. He told us Good luck’ it was awesome.”
It was the second time in two seasons that a group of OSU players ran into a high-profile sports figure while on a road trip. On a trip to play Pepperdine early in the 2006 season, it was Barry Bonds that was spied by Mike Stutes, Geoff Wagner, Cole Gillespie, Tyler Graham and Greg Keim while they were out for dinner; they also have a photographic souvenir of their celebrity encounter.
