OSU's Canham Earns All-America Honor - Oregon State University Athletics

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Oregon State catcher Mitch Canham has been named to the Louisville Slugger All-America Baseball team as a third team selection, it was announced Thursday. The squad is selected by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Canham (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS), a junior, is batting .346 with nine home runs, one triple, 13 doubles and 53 runs batted in as the 25th-ranked Beavers begin the NCAA Charlottesville Regional against Rutgers on Friday at 5 p.m. PDT.

Earlier this week, Canham had also been named a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic-All-America first team selection. He was an All-Pacific-10 first team pick, and he a recipient of the annual Pacific-10 Sportsmanship Award that is given to one male and one female athlete in the conference.

In the preseason, Canham was a second-team All-America pick by Collegiate Baseball and a third-team selection by Baseball America.

Canham is the 19th baseball player in Oregon State history to earn All-America honors. He’s the sixth Beaver in the past three years to gain that recognition, joining pitcher Dallas Buck (2005-06), outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury (2005), outfielder Cole Gillespie (2006), pitcher Kevin Gunderson (2006) and pitcher Jonah Nickerson (2005-06).
