Golf Recruit Wins Washington State Title

CORVALLIS -- Alex Moore, who will be a freshman on the Oregon State men's golf team in the fall, capped off his high school career by winning the Washington 3A state boys' golf championship this week.
Moore (Richland, Wash./Hanford HS) did it in dramatic fashion, as he sank a 55-foot downhill putt for eagle on the second hole of a three-way playoff at Homestead Farms Golf Course.
He shot a 5-under 67 on the second day to finish with a 2-under 142. He helped Hanford win its first state team championship.
"That's as good as it gets," Moore told the Tri-City Herald. "We finished third my sophomore year and second last year, so to get the monkey off our back as a team was the most exciting thing for me."
Moore started the second round four shots back of the leaders but had six birdies and just one bogey over the final 18 holes.
Regarding his winning putt, Moore said: "I knew it was a good putt right off the bat. When it got to the top of the ridge, I thought it was really good, and when it was halfway down, I put my hands in the air."
