As a team, OSU shot a 7-under-par 281 at the par-72 Karsten Golf Course. UCLA leads all teams after an impressive 20-under-par 268 first round. The Beavers are one stroke back of 9th place
The Beavers had three golfers score under-par, led by James Allenby. Allenby had an outstanding day recording six birdies and no bogeys to finish with a 6-under-par 66, which puts him in a tie for 3rd. Allenby’s 66 is also tied for the sixth best round in
“James and Alex both played great today with no bogey’s.” Coach Brian Watts said following the first round. “Overall we played well, but we left a few shots out there coming in. We made a few mistakes, but I felt like it was a clean round for us. The goal for the first day is to not take yourself out of it and play solid. I feel like we accomplished that. We feel good with where we’re at, but we know we left a few shots out there. We got some good practice in this afternoon. We’re going to stick to our game plan, but we’ll go out and play a more aggressively tomorrow. We’re going to focus on fairways and greens and hopefully get our number up tomorrow.”
Individually, UCLA’s Erik Flores leads all scorers with an 8-under-par 64. Charlie Beljan of
