WALNUT CREEK, CA Oregon State senior was named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for May 8-14, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Tuesday.
Longfellow led the Beavers to their first Pac-10 weekend sweep of the season in OSU’s final three regular season games. Oregon State’s offense caught fire and the Beavers averaged nine runs per game in a victory over California and two wins against No. 16 Stanford.
The Ramona, Calif., native was a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate with two runs scored in Oregon State’s 5-inning 10-0 victory over Cal on Thursday. The victory marked the first time in program history that the Beavers won three regular season games against the Golden Bears.
In Saturday’s regular season finale against the Cardinal, Longfellow matched the Oregon State single game record for both hits and runs scored. The 5-1 shortstop finished the game with a perfect 4-for-4 mark from the plate and scored four runs in OSU’s 9-2 victory. With the win, the Beavers captured the season series against Stanford for the first time since 1999.
For the week, Longfellow hit .778 (7-for-9) with seven runs scored and an on-base percentage of .800. She raised her school record for hits to 235, and record for singles to 185. Longfellow now has 135 runs scored in her career, just six shy of ’s (2003-06) school record. With her 50 hits on the season, Longfellow has now amassed 50 hits or more in all four years of her career.
This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week award for Longfellow, and the 32nd all-time Player/Pitcher of the Week award for Oregon State.
The No. 15 ranked Beavers (39-21) open NCAA Regional Tournament action on Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich., against University of Louisville. First-pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PDT. The game will air live on KTHH (990 AM) as well as for free on Beaver Nation Online at .
