Spring Practice Report (Day 3) -- Wow. That Was Fun! - Oregon State University Athletics

The pads were a poppin’ Friday in the first day of full gear at the Tommy Prothro Football Complex – which led senior center to come out of one drill and tell head athletic trainer Barney Graff – “Wow! That was fun.”

A large gathering in attendance today, including fans headed for Coleman Field at Goss Stadium to watch game two of the baseball series with USC. Most of the attendance was made up of high school and small college coaches from Oregon and Washington on campus for the annual coaches clinic. There will be a lot of “coach-speak” over the next couple of days. A familiar face at practice was , the current head coach at Western Washington University and former Beaver linebackers coach. Ross spoke to several of his former players, including middle backer .

Linebacker Derek Doggett and offensive guard did not participate in practice today with minor injuries. Sophomore took Schuening’s place in drills.

Speaking of drills, an interesting offensive line vs. defensive line drill near the end of practice. The players were feeding off the intensity of coaches and .

Junior strong safety , a former baseball player, was impressive today with an interception as he worked with the second team.

Friday doesn’t usually bring many media members to practice and that was particularly evident today – most of the football beat writers and television reporters were either at baseball or in Eugene for the first of three Civil War softball games. The Beavers rallied from a six-run deficit to defeat the Ducks 9-7 and are within one win of clinching for a record third consecutive year the Northwest Dodge Dealers Civil War Series -- the win could come Saturday.

Practice is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the team in pads.

Due to construction around Reser Stadium and Gill Coliseum the “Beaver Fun Run” and Football 101-Workshop for Women will not be offered this spring. Speaking of construction, a large portion of steel was erected today in the south end zone of Reser Stadium. You can watch the progress at this . Construction officials expect the cement casting to be finished prior to the Spring Game.
