Mia Longfellow Breaks School Hits And Singles Records But No. 13 Beavers Drop 5-3 Outing To No. 12 UCLA

The game shaped up to be a classic Pac-10 pitcher’s duel from the start. Beaver hurler allowed just one hit over the first three innings of play while Bruin starter Anjelica Selden was pitching a perfect game heading into the fourth.

The Bruins (33-13; 9-6 Pac-10) answered in the bottom of the fourth when shortstop Jodie Legaspi belted her third home run in the last two days with a 2-run shot over the center field fence.
Oregon State (35-18; 7-8 Pac-10) regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Longfellow broke Chmielewski’s Beaver singles record when she singled to right field and scored freshman . The single was the 177th of Longfellow’s career and extended her school record hits total to 227, along with giving the Beavers a 3-2 advantage.
UCLA rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to score three runs and regain the lead for good. Megan Langenfeld’s lined single off the right field wall scored Lisa Dodd and Legaspi crossed the plate on an errant throw to give the Bruins the edge. UCLA added an insurance run on Tara Henry’s two-out infield single.
The Beavers loaded the bases in the seventh inning but were unable to push any runs across the plate.
Longfellow, Young, and all finished with two hits as the Beavers out-hit UCLA 8-7 on the afternoon.
