“The two JV boats matched up pretty well against one another and had a very good race,” said head coach Steve Todd. “Those two could have a really good fight at Pac-10s in a couple weeks.”
The Varsity 8+ was the next race on the schedule. Both teams got out to a good start and were fighting for position through the first 1,000 meters. Just past the halfway point the Cardinal got an edge on OSU and would go on for the victory with a margin just over five seconds.
“We made some changes that helped the varsity crew improve their boat speed against a really good Stanford crew,” said Todd. “It was great to get the Stanford guys up here to have something of a home race and allow a lot of people to come out and watch the sport.”
Finishing out the morning in the Novice 8+ was Stanford earning a victory over the Beavers.
