Home Runs Not Enough As No. 13 Softball Comes Up Short At No. 12 UCLA, 6-3

UCLA (32-13; 8-6 Pac-10) took the lead from the start when shortstop Jodie Legaspi belted a 2-run home run in the opening inning of play.
’s third inning 2-out double broke up Megan Langenfeld’s no-hitter, but the Beavers (35-17; 7-7 Pac-10) were unable to get on the scoreboard.
The Bruins extended their advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Tara Henry scored on a bloop single to right field by Lisa Dodd.
Young stepped to the plate and lofted her sixth home run of the season with a towering shot over the left field fence in the top of the fifth inning. Galvan then reached base on an error by Langenfeld and Lowe picked up her second hit of the game with a one-out single up-the-middle. Unfortunately for OSU, both players were left stranded on-base.
Legaspi put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth when she hit her second home run of the day with a 3-run line drive over the left-center field wall to make the score 6-1.
Beaver freshman entered the game in relief of senior pitcher (13-8) and allowed just two hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Young finished with two hits and two runs scored, while Lowe also went 2-for-3 from the plate.
The Beavers and Bruins close out the regular season series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start at Easton Stadium.
