NCAA Gymnastics Championships: Friday Doings

Friday brought an assortment of things to do for OSU’s gymnasts. School came first with several gymnasts taking tests in the morning. But mostly it was a relaxing day with the afternoon filled with a variety of activities. Some gymnasts spent time taking in the culture and history of Salt Lake City with relatives, while other team and staff members toured Park City and the Hogle Zoo, and, of course, their was shopping to be done at The Gateway.
The day ended with the Beavers attending the Super Six to support fellow Pac-10 teams, UCLA and Stanford.
“We really want this team to understand that it is capable of getting to the Super Six,” said associate head coach Michael Chaplin. “They need to sense that we’re very close to being one of those teams if we compete to our potential. We didn’t have a great meet in the preliminaries, but we’re better this year than last year, and we’ll be even better next year. Hopefully they can take from this experience that it is a lot more fun to be on the floor than in the stands.”
Individual Finals take place Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. with OSU’s Tasha Smith and Mandi Rodriguez participating on vault. Competition order was determined by random draw with Rodriguez receiving the second spot during Flight 1 and Smith drawing the sixth position (14th overall) in Flight 2.
