No. 19 Women's Rowing to Host Conference Opponents This Weekend

CORVALLIS – On Saturday (Apr. 28) the No. 19 Oregon State women’s rowing team will be hosting conference opponents No. 17 Stanford and Washington State at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore. The event ends a streak of five consecutive road regattas outside the state of Oregon for the Beavers.

“This is our last opportunity to race conference opponents before the Pac-10 Championships," said head coach Emily Ford. "It’s a nice opportunity to get some more kinks out. We’ve reverted back to the drawing board this week to remind ourselves of the importance of sticking with our plan and our method to allow our training to shine on race day.”

Races will feature the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Novice 8+, Varsity 4+ and Second Novice 8+. Competition begins at 9:10 a.m. with the N8+ taking the course first for the Beavers.

All five boats entered for OSU are coming off what Ford felt was a great learning experience last weekend in Seattle.

“We learned a lot about ourselves last week at Washington and about how our progress is coming along. We’ve been able to work on some of our weaknesses this week. Everyone is excited to have another opportunity to race strong opponents.”

The weekend’s event will mark the second time OSU has met both Stanford and Washington State this season. In April the Beavers raced the two at the San Diego Crew Classic. The Beavers defeated Washington State and Stanford in the Grand Finals for the 2V8+ and N8+. In the V8+ Grand Final the Cardinal bested both OSU and Washington State with the Beavers finishing ahead of the Cougars.

“It will be nice to go back and race them again because we’ve already seen them once. I’m looking forward to racing these two very solid programs that have some very good team speed.”

The teams will be racing on Dexter Lake’s 2,000 meter course that begins at the covered bridge on the east side of the lake running down two full buoyed lines northwest towards the OAR boathouse for the finish line.

Last season the Beavers hosted the University of Victoria at Dexter Lake where the Beavers recorded victories in all four events they were entered in.

The No. 18 Oregon State men’s rowing team will also be in competition in Lowell this weekend against No. 4 ranked Stanford.

From I-5 North or South –

Follow Highway 58 East for approximately 13.5 Miles

(Don’t speed! Lots of State Troopers and local cops.)

Left at Jasper-Lowell Rd. (Covered Bridge is on left hand side right before the turn)

Follow Jasper-Lowell Rd. for 0.7 Miles

Left on North Shore Dr. North Shore Dr turns into Pengra RD.

Lowell Recreation Site is located 0.7 Miles from turn on the left hand side.
