OSU Opens Spring With 3-0 Win Over Portland State

CORVALLIS -- The Oregon State women's soccer team opened its spring season with a 3-0 exhibition victory over Portland State on Friday at Lorenz Field.
Najma Homidi, Jodie Taylor and Whitney Goodell scored the Beaver goals, all of which came in the first half.
"We created numerous scoring chances and dominated the first half," OSU Coach Steve Fennah said. "The second half was a little more even and most of the action took place in the middle third of the field."
On the first goal, Melissa Peck made a run thruogh the midfield, and cut the ball back to Homidi, who scored from 10 yards out. Jessica Velazquez beat a defender and played a through ball to Taylor for the second goal, as she went around the goalkeeper and scored. On the final goal, Monica Storm sent a long through pass up the field, Goodell beat the defender and fired in a low shot from 12 yards out.
Ashley Wood, OSU's most experienced goalkeeper after the departure of four-year starter Melissa Onstad, played an entire game for the first time and recorded one save for the shutout.
The Beavers will be back in action with games at Seattle Pacific and Washington on April 28-29.
