Seattle, WA Sophomore provided all of the scoring with a 2-run home run and senior pitcher earned the win in the circle as No. 13 ranked Oregon State shut out No. 11 Washington, 2-0, in Friday’s Pac-10 softball action.
With the Beaver victory, Oregon State takes the season series from the Huskies for the third straight year. OSU has also now won three consecutive games in Seattle the Beavers have just five total wins in the Emerald city in the history of the series.
Young hit a line drive shot over the left field fence for her fifth home run of the season in the top of the second. The two-run blast also plated fellow sophomore who had reached base with a walk.
Despite giving up the home run to Young, Washington pitcher Danielle Lawrie (19-8) cruised through the Beaver batters for the majority of the contest.
McElroy (13-7) faired just as well, dominating in the circle and allowing only four hits en route to the complete game shutout victory. The Los Angeles native kept the Husky batters off-balance throughout the game and held Washington scoreless for just the third time on the year.
Young was the lone player on the day to pick up a pair of hits.
The Beavers head to the airport to catch a flight to Los Angeles for the weekend series against No. 12 UCLA. Saturday’s game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Easton Stadium.
