No. 18 Men's Rowing to Host No. 4 Stanford - Oregon State University Athletics

CORVALLIS – The No. 18 Oregon State men’s rowing team will be hosting conference foe and the No. 4 ranked Stanford Cardinal this weekend (Apr. 28) at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore. The event marks the end of six consecutive road regattas taking place outside the state of Oregon for the Beavers.

“It’s nice to have a race close to home for us,” said head coach Steve Todd. “It helps the guys to be more focused on their everyday routine and really prepare themselves to race.”

Races will feature the Varsity 8+, Junior Varsity 8+, Novice 8+ and Varsity 4+. Competition begins at 9 a.m. with the JV8+ taking the water first for the Beavers.

The Card has become a familiar opponent for the Beavers this season. The team’s V8+ and N8+ met in April at the San Diego Crew Classic. Stanford got the edge on the Beavers in the Grand Final of both races.

“Our guys always look forward to racing Stanford,” Todd said. “We haven’t done as well in the past couple years as we would have liked, but for us it’s another chance to race a top five team in the country. It will be a real test for us.”

The teams will be racing on Dexter Lake’s 2,000-meter course that begins at the covered bridge on the east side of the lake running down two full buoyed lines northwest towards the OAR boathouse for the finish line.

“We’ve been working on completing our own race and executing each part of our race plan to the best of our abilities,” said Todd. “Hopefully we get a nice day at Dexter Lake and are able to put together a full 2,000 meters and come away satisfied that we executed our entire plan.”

Last season the Beavers hosted the University of Victoria at Dexter Lake where the Beavers recorded victories in all four events they were entered in.

The No. 19 Oregon State women’s rowing team will also be in competition this weekend at Lowell against No. 17 Stanford and Washington State.

From I-5 North or South –

Follow Highway 58 East for approximately 13.5 Miles

(Don’t speed! Lots of State Troopers and local cops.)

Left at Jasper-Lowell Rd. (Covered Bridge is on left hand side right before the turn)

Follow Jasper-Lowell Rd. for 0.7 Miles

Left on North Shore Dr. North Shore Dr turns into Pengra RD.

Lowell Recreation Site is located 0.7 Miles from turn on the left hand side.
