Beavers Head To Western Oregon For John Knight Twilight Invitational

With only two weeks until the Pacific-10 Championships, Oregon State’s women’s track team heads to Western Oregon on Friday night to compete in the John Knight Twilight Invitational. The Beavers, who continue to put climb the school’s lists of all-time top performers and set personal bests, look to have another successful weekend in Monmouth.
"Western Oregon always puts on a good meet," OSU head coach Kelly Sullivan said. "We really want to continue moving forward, and to get prepared for the Pac-10 meet. Hopefully, we’ll get some more personal records, too."
Runners will have the opportunity to run under the lights on Western Oregon’s new track. The invitational will have runners representing a number of schools, plus unattached and open competitors.
"There will be a lot of open and unattached runners there," Sullivan said. "Their brand new track helps runners run pretty quick, and everyone likes to run under the lights. It’s a really fun meet."
Those registered to compete for the Beavers this weekend include Katelyn Van Brunt, Holly Thomson, Noelle Harer, and Julie Garcia in the 800 meters; Elise Aschwanden, Jean-Marie Peterson, Lorene Young, Lauren Denfeld, Sylvia Veal, Hayley Oveson, Krista Stangel and Harer in the 1,500 meters; Jenny O’Connor, Rebecca Mishler, Samantha Godfrey and Young in the 5,000 meters. Several OSU runners will be in events that aren’t their specialty.
"We are going to be changing people around to off events," Sullivan said. "I’m excited. The women are working hard. It’s just one more meet until the big one of the year."
The Beavers begin competing with the 1,500 meters at 6:30 p.m., followed by the 800 meters at 8:05 p.m., and concluding with the 5,000 meters at 9:30 p.m.
