Women's Golf Shoot Six Shots Better in Day 2 of Pac-10 Championship

SEATTLE, Wash. – Despite improving the team score by six shots in the second round of the three day tournament, the Oregon State women’s golf team remains in 10^th place among a very strong field at the Pac-10 Championships.

OSU shot a team score of 323 at Broadmore Golf Club, a par-72, 6,196 yard course. Given today’s score with yesterday’s 329, the Beavers are at a tournament total of 652 heading into the final round of play.

After struggling in day one of the tournament, junior Jessi Gebhardt rebounded on Tuesday leading the Beavers with a score of four-over-par 76; 13 strokes better than her Monday score of 89. Today’s 76 also helped lift Gebhardt 11 spots on the individual leaderboard.

“She played like Jessi today,” said head coach Rise Lakowske. “She was hitting fairways and greens and she was making putts. She was getting a lot of shots within 15 feet to give herself chances. She played much better and much more focused today.”

Brittany Stewart’s two day total of 163 (80-83) leads for the OSU team low. Stewart is in a tie for 34^th. Both Jillian Ferrante (83-82) and Julianna Uhrik (83-82; 165) are tied with Gebhardt (89-76; 165) at 37^th and Martha Burkard (83-85; 168) is in a tie for 43^rd.

“We just couldn’t get our short game going today,” Lakowske said. “We gave ourselves some opportunities and just weren’t able to convert. Tomorrow we are going to go out and try post a good score and play like we can play. The bottom line is we just have to execute when we give ourselves chances.”

No 2. ranked Arizona State had no problems maintaining their team lead after posting a 300 giving the Sun Devils a total of 597 for the tournament and a seven stroke lead over second place and No. 9 ranked UCLA who has a two day score of 604 (305-299).

Maintaining the top spot on the leaderboard is Arizona State’s Anna Nordqvist who shot an even-par 72 on the day, keeping her at a 4-under 140 for the tournament. Mari Chun of Stanford maintained second place with a 1-over-par 73, taking her to even par for the tournament with a 144. UCLA’s Tiffany Joh (74-70; 144) shot a 2-under-par 70 on the day to move up from sixth to tie Chun in second place.

Oregon State will tee-off tomorrow morning at 8:54 for the final round of the Pac-10 Championship.
