CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State is again ranked No. 9 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN national baseball coaches poll. The Beavers (31-8 overall, 4-5 Pacific-10) are also ranked No. 8 by Baseball America magazine, No. 11 by Collegiate Baseball newspaper and No. 9 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association this week.
OSU swept Nevada-Las Vegas in a three-game non-conference series over the weekend at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The Beavers visit Portland (17-21, 4-8 West Coast) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Pilots’ Joe Etzel Field; the game can be heard on KEJO-AM (1240) in the Corvallis area and KUIK-AM (1360) in the Portland area, and live audio is available on the internet through Beaver Nation Online at .
Portland won three of four games last week. The Pilots beat Washington 5-4 in a midweek game shortened to six innings by rain; UP took two of three games from San Francisco in a conference series over the weekend, winning 5-3 and 3-1 before losing the finale 8-0.
The Beavers and Pilots met on April 10 in Corvallis, with the Beavers taking a 12-4 win by scoring nine runs over the seventh and eighth innings. Jordan Lennerton was 3-for-4 with a grand slam for OSU and Mitch Canham had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs for Oregon State. The all-time series dates back to 1909, with OSU holding a 141-60 edge.
This weekend, the Beavers will return to Pac-10 play with a series at Stanford. Friday’s game has been moved to a 7 p.m. start, Saturday’s game is at 1 p.m. and Sunday’s game has been moved to a 12:30 p.m. start.
