No. 18 Men's Crew Comes Up Short at No. 1 Washington - Oregon State University Athletics

SEATTLE, Wash. – The 18th-ranked Oregon State men's crew came up short against No. 1 Washington Saturday morning at Montlake Cut on Lake Washington.

The Beavers' first Pac-10 race of the season proved difficult against the top-ranked Huskies and left OSU with area to improve upon before it faces UW at the Pac-10 Championships next month. All five of the Beavers' boats were dealt losses with the closest race coming when OSU's Varsity 4+ finished just under seven seconds behind UW's "A" crew.

“Anytime you race the number one team in the country, you expect to have a hard race,” said head coach Steve Todd. “We met our goal of having a strong first 500 meters against Washington. We did that nicely and the guys really hung in there and showed some good aggressiveness. We just didn’t quite handle the conditions down the last 500 as well as we could have.”

The Beavers are back in action next weekend when they host their only home race of the season April 28, at 9 a.m., when they host No. 4 Stanford at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore.
