OSU Opens Oregon Invitational With PRs

EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon State’s Neoma Palmer took a minute off her season best in the women’s 5,000 meters as the Beavers opened the Oregon Invitational track and field meet Friday evening at Hayward Field. Palmer finished in 17 minutes, 35.51 seconds. The meet concludes on Saturday.
“I was really pleased,” OSU head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “Neoma ran really well in the 5,000 meters and she has rebounded really well, and Krista Stangel and Hayley Oveson did really well, too, with personal bests as well.”
Stangel finished in 17:34.18 and Oveson in 17:42.43. All three ran in the 21-runner Section 2 of the women’s 5,000, with Stangel finishing 10th, Palmer 11th and Oveson 15th.

“Overall, we had a good day,” Sullivan said. “It was the first time for the women who ran in the 10,000 meters tonight, and they ran really well.”
Lorene Young and Samantha Godfrey also ran the 10,000, with Young finishing in 39:08.08 for 11th place and Godfrey in 40:21.89 for 12th.
Lauren Denfeld and Jean-Marie Peterson competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Denfeld, who has already qualified for the NCAA West Regionals that will be held in
“Lauren and Jean-Marie ran really well in the steeple tonight,” Sullivan said. “Lauren ran her second-fastest time, and Jean-Marie beat her personal best.”
