Former Oregon State tight end has been drafted with the XXXXX pick in the XXXX round (XXXX overall) by the XXXXX Saturday/Sunday in the 2007 National Football League Draft.
Newton earned three letters for the Beavers, missing the 2005 season after suffering a freak injury prior to the start of practice. For his career he made 105 receptions, including 15 touchdowns – a school record for a tight end. He was named the Insight Bowl’s Player of the Game in 2004 in the win over Notre Dame and was a semi-finalist for the John Mackey Award in 2006 (top TE). He also played in the 2006 Senior Bowl.
The Roseburg, Ore., native is the second consecutive tight end from Oregon State to be drafted, joining 2004 draftee Tim Euhus (Buffalo).
