Spring Practice Report (Day 10) -- A Comedy Act - Oregon State University Athletics

Today’s practice was held at Merritt Truax Indoor Center as unsettled weather continues to visit the mid-Willamette Valley. The team will be outside, most likely Reser Stadium on Friday, as a huge volleyball tournament has taken over several facilities on campus. The team will not be in pads, but will be for Saturday’s scrimmage, held at approximately 11:15 a.m. at the stadium.

Wednesday several of the players were recruited as human guinea pigs as another equipment company wanted to get feedback from the Beaver players. Several players were testing shoulder pads for Riddell, that according to equipment coordinator Arnold Alcantar are lighter and form a better fit than some of the company’s other models. The word is that Nike may back in town Friday with some new gear to test.

On the field, the Beaver receivers made some nice catches today in the “team” drills, including juggling grabs by and . also made his usual number of catches which prompted one starting defensive player to comment -- “Aaron is so smooth and polished, and he has good hands.”

While the receivers made some good catches, the Beaver defense was right there to show their force. Safeties and made interceptions, for Payton it must have been about his 50^th in practice over the last two years. “He’s good for one just about every practice,” Corvallis Gazette-Times reporter Cliff Kirkpatrick said – and he’s pretty close to being right on the money.

Linebacker is slowly working his way back into practice, but don’t expect him to be meeting in the hole anytime soon. In fact, Bernard didn’t practice Monday and today, and won’t early next week either due to classes.
