Corvallis, OR – The No. 16 ranked Oregon State softball team broke the school single season record for stolen bases, but dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 12 University of Washington on Saturday.
The Beavers (32-13; 4-3 Pac-10) tallied three stolen bases on the afternoon to give the team 73 swipes on the year – breaking the school record of 70, set in 2005.
Despite getting runners in scoring position, OSU left seven players stranded on base in the game.
Washington (27-10; 4-3 Pac-10) took advantage of its opportunities in the contest. The Huskies capitalized on a one-out double to right-center field by Nicole Moojen to push the first run across the plate. Alyson McWherter’s ground ball off the glove of diving Beaver second baseman allowed Moojen to score and give the Huskies a 1-0 edge in the top of the third.
The Huskies extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth after an RBI single to center field from Dena Tyson.
Oregon State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when opened the inning with a double to left-center field and then pinch runner came around to score on a single to the right side from .
OSU let a golden opportunity go to waste in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with one out but failing to score.
Tyson’s seventh inning lead-off home run gave the Huskies their final margin of victory.
The two teams finish the weekend series in Corvallis on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start. Oregon State player trading cards will be given to fans in attendance and the Beavers will sign autographs after the game.
