CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State is among college baseball’s “Eight For Omaha,” according to Rivals.com’s list of teams it thinks are headed for the 2007 College World Series. The Beavers (26-7 overall, 2-4 Pacific-10), the defending national champions, host California in a Pacific-10 series this weekend.
The “Eight For Omaha” feature is presented by Rivals.com every two weeks and lists the teams that the college athletics-oriented website has the best chance to reach the CWS. Kendall Rogers, Rivals.com’s college baseball editor, wrote of OSU: “The Beavers caught the attention of many when they were swept by Arizona two weekends ago. But this past weekend, the Beavers displayed the ability to bounce back by taking two of three at home from Southern California. While Oregon State's team batting average could be higher, the Beavers still have the attitude and leadership to go the distance. Veteran catcher Mitch Canham continues to lead the team offensively, while right-hander Mike Stutes continues to put up great numbers. If the OSU offense moves in line with an impressive pitching staff, the Beavers should smell more postseason success. While some might currently doubt the Beavers, they have consistently shown that when they get knocked down, they jump right back up. That didn't change last weekend against USC.”
Oregon State is ranked No. 9 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN coaches poll, No. 8 by Baseball America magazine, No. 9 by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, and No. 10 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
