Brianne McGowan Breaks All-Time Wins And Shutouts Records As No. 17 Softball Stops California, 6-0

Corvallis, OR – Senior pitcher became Oregon State’s all-time leader in victories and shutouts on Sunday as the No. 17 ranked Beaver softball team knocked off University of California, 6-0.

McGowan recorded her 92^nd career pitching victory – breaking the previous mark held by All-American Tarrah Beyster (1997-00). The Reno, NV, native also registered her 33^rd career shutout, breaking the 22 year old record held by Joan Harvey (1982-85).

“It’s a great honor for Brianne – I’m very proud of her,” said OSU head coach . “We just hope she keeps building on the records throughout the rest of her career.”

The Beaver offense gave McGowan a nice cushion to work with, breaking the game open with a 3-run third inning.

Senior led-off the inning with a walk and picked up her 46^th career stolen base while fellow senior was at the plate. Johnson’s infield single advanced Longfellow to third and she would eventually score when the California (23-19; 0-3 Pac-10) left fielder dropped ’s towering fly ball.

The Beavers (28-11; 2-1 Pac-10) made the score 3-0 when senior roped her fifth double of the season to the left-center field fence, scoring both Johnson and Miranda on the play.

Oregon State added to the lead in the bottom of the sixth when junior pinch hitter stepped in and blasted a 3-run home run over the right field fence.

McGowan (17-6) helped her own cause from the plate, finishing with a pair of hits.

Oregon State returns to action next week to face in-state rival University of Oregon. The Civil War as presented by the Northwest Dodge Dealers will start on Friday at Howe Field in Eugene. First-pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
