Beavers Finish Third at Pac-10 Championships - Oregon State University Athletics

TEMPE, Ariz. – Oregon State’s ninth-ranked gymnastics team won the floor exercise and sophomore finished second in the all-around and tied for third but it wasn’t enough for the Beavers who finished third at the Pac-10 Championships.

OSU finished with a score of 196.300 while No. 8 UCLA scored 197.200 to win the Pac-10 title. No. 4 Stanford finished second (196.950). No. 15 Arizona was fourth (196.000), Washington was fifth (194.775), No. 25 Arizona State finished sixth (194.550) and California was seventh (193.650).

Opening the meet on the uneven bars the Beavers put together a solid set of routines but were held back by low scoring early on. Lanz, Smith and freshman each scored 9.800’s to lead OSU and added a 9.775.

Moving to balance beam OSU stumbled to start with a fall, but the remaining five Beavers nailed routine after routine. Once again Lanz (9.900) and Smith (9.825) keyed OSU’s success on the event as the team finished with a score of 49.050.

Following a bye in the third rotation the Beavers moved on to floor exercise where they finally began to make headway with the leaders. A solid start of 9.700 by led to and ’s 9.825s. Lanz scored her second 9.900 of the night and Smith delighted the crowd of 2,190 as she moonwalked to a 9.925. The Beavers finished the rotation with the top floor score of the night at 49.175.

After their second bye of the night the Beavers were the first team to finish moving quickly through the vault lineup. took the pressure off her teammates with a solid 9.725. Lamb’s vault went off course forcing a small step on the landing but still tallied a 9.800. Lanz followed with a 9.850 and Smith nailed a huge vault that earned a 10.0 from one judge but resulted in a 9.925 for her effort. Rodriguez finished the scoring for the Beavers with a 9.875.

The Beavers must wait until Monday when regional seedings are announced to learn where they’ll compete next. The NCAA Regionals take place April 14 at Alabama, Arizona, California, Denver, Michigan and West Virginia.
