Men's Rowing Sending All to Grand Final

SAN DIEGO, Calif. All three boats (Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, and Novice 8+) for the No. 19 ranked Oregon State men’s rowing team have qualified for their respective Grand Final tomorrow (Apr. 1) at the San Diego Crew on Classic Crown Point Shores Park at Mission Bay.
The best showing of the day came from the Junior Varsity 8+. In their heat race of the Sharp Cabrillo Cup, the Beavers (6:36.24) owned the race from start to finish. OSU got out to a slight edge in the first quarter of the race and blew it open the rest of the way. UC Davis (6:42.83) was the nearest opponent for the Beavers, who trailed by nearly six seconds.
“The JV did quite well today,” said head coach Steve Todd. “They had the best race of the day. They put together a really nice race that should help their confidence for tomorrow.”
In another good race for the Beavers, the Novice 8+ finished in second place in their heat race of the Derek Guelker Memorial.
For the Varsity 8+, OSU finished behind No. 2 ranked
“We completed the job on the first day of the regatta by having all three boats qualifying to race tomorrow,” said Todd. “We raced well today, but we are going to have to race at a higher level tomorrow to compete for a good spot in the Grand Finals.”
The N8+ Grand Final will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the JV8+ Grand Final at 10:50 and then the V8+ at 11:20. The races can be viewed on a free live video web-cast at .
