We made it to
The first night we were treated to a barbeque at the boathouse where the team is staying. The guys all have rooms above the boat storage; so they can roll right out of bed, grab breakfast and hit the water.
The practices have gone well so far. The team was impressed on the first day as we rowed past the ruins of a Ninth century Castle. The river Vlatav leads directly from the boathouse to the center of the city. The view of the Prazsky Hrad (
We have trained twice a day so far and the crews are each settling into their lineups and their new racing shells. The 8+ is rowing in a nice Italian Filippi shell who's name translated to English means "Leg of a Cow" 2. We aren't sure why a boat would have that name, but the guys really are starting to row well in it.
The 4+'s boat was not quite ready when we arrived so they spent a few practices learning about the joys of steering a coxswain-less boat. On Friday though they were quite surprised to see their racing shell is a HOT PINK Empacher from
Our hosts have been gracious and more than accommodating. We are hoping that they help us to arrange some practice pieces against a couple of Czech crews on Tuesday to prepare for next weekend’s racing.
