Former Oregon State University punter Sam Paulescu has signed a contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. Paulescu, who was the starting punter for the Beavers for the 2004 and 2005 seasons, has been assigned to the club’s developmental squad.
Paulescu, from Fullerton, Calif., was arguably the program’s best ever punter. He was the first punter in OSU history to earn first team All-Pac-10 Conference honors as selected at the conclusion of the 2005 season. Paulescu was named the Pac-10 Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week after the Beavers’ upset of No. 18 California in Berkeley last season after having six punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
As a senior he averaged 43 yards per punt and for his career had a 42.7 average in 128 attempts. He had 48 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
