Lakowske Headed to New Orleans for NGCA Project - Oregon State University Athletics

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State women’s golf coach Rise Lakowske, along with many other collegiate golf coaches from around the country, are headed to New Orleans in the next few days to assist Habitat for Humanity with the construction of a new home in the hurricane-ravaged city.

Approximately 25 women’s golf coaches, as part of the National Golf Coaches Association, will be in New Orleans’ Upper 9^th Ward from June 5-10.

“The idea originated at our NGCA convention,” Lakowske said. “I’m a board member and it was presented to our membership. At the time, Katrina had just happened. It’s a good way for the organization to support the relief effort. I’m from the South and I’ve seen the devastation. It’s unbelievable. I wanted to be a part of helping the area to recover.”

According to the NGCA, more than 30 teams around the nation have helped raise money for this project. OSU’s recent student-athlete talent show, “The Other Side,” helped raise $2,000 to assist Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans.
