Oklahoma City, OK USA Softball announced its roster for the 2006 World University Games and Oregon State junior pitcher and sophomore utility player have been selected to represent the United States from July 15-23 in Tainan City, Taiwan.
McGowan and Miranda were two of over 30 of the nation’s top collegiate softball players that participated in a selection camp from June 8-11 in Chula Vista, CA. From the selection camp, 17 players including McGowan and Miranda were chosen to represent the United States this summer.
McGowan, a two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American from Reno, NV, finished the season with a 29-9 overall record and 258 strikeouts. She is the only pitcher in OSU history to record 200 or more K’s in consecutive seasons. McGowan also became just the second Oregon State player to receive multiple first team All-Pac-10 honors.
Miranda is one of just three first team All-America selections in Oregon State softball history (McGowan (2005) and Tarrah Beyster (2000)). The Camarillo, CA, native broke the OSU school record with 52 runs scored and matched the single season mark with 16 home runs. She was a first team All-Pac-10 and first team All-Pacific Region honoree.
The World University team will play a scrimmage against the USA Softball Women’s National Team on July 10 in Irvine, CA, before departing for Taiwan. Upon their return to the United States, they will stop in Chicago for a four game series (July 26-30) against the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch League.
The U.S. won the first ever World University Games in 2004 when it was hosted in Plant City, FL.
