Honebein Leaves OSU Men's Rowing Program - Oregon State University Athletics

CORVALLIS, Ore. – , who led Oregon State to top 12 finishes in each of the last two seasons, resigned as the Beavers’ men’s rowing coach.

Honebein has been named head coach of the men’s heavyweight crew at the University of Pennsylvania.

“Coach Honebein has done an outstanding job at Oregon State and we wish him well in his new opportunity,” OSU Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis said. “He has laid the groundwork for the Oregon State rowing program to achieve greater heights. His student-athletes have represented Oregon State in a first class fashion and we thank him for his outstanding contributions.”

“I really enjoyed my time, albeit a short time, at Oregon State,” Honebein said. “The connections made and opportunity provided me and the things I’ve learned as a coach and mentor will stay with me as I move on in my next endeavor.”

Honebein guided the Beavers for two seasons placing third at the Pac-10 Championships both years. OSU continued on to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) national championships both seasons finishing 9th in 2005 and 12th in 2006.

In 2006, Honebein’s first class of recruits at OSU arrived providing a boost to the program with the 1st freshman eight finishing third at the Pac-10 Regatta and the freshman four finishing fourth at the IRA Regatta.

Prior to his arrival at Oregon State, Honebein served as the men’s assistant coach and was responsible for coordinating recruiting at the University of Washington for several years and was named the 2002 Northwest Coach of the Year after his novice eight won the Pac-10 and IRA Regattas.
